Mr. Cymbala of Brooklyn Tabernacle should be included in “Grassley’s 6”

BREAKING NEWS

Usher: Hey Deak, some interesting stuff in the comments with regards to the Brooklyn Tabernacle on our post below.

Deacon: It appears Mr. Cymbala has created some of his own miracles.  Interesting comment with regards to the homeless community “We’re not that KIND of church”….

Usher: And he’s got money for construction but not for a stipend for those who give to him and carry out ministries he writes about in his book…..

  1. Seriously? Says:

I can pretty much guarantee that Cymbala never said that. I used to attend there and every time there was any sort of play or Christmas or Easter program the church bussed in homeless people and then fed them in the cafeteria.
Also, they go to the projects and other areas to share the gospel and hand out food. As far as I have ever seen the church gives so much. I even remember a time when a man came in lying about being homeless. The church gave him money several times and a place to stay and then it was found out that he wasn’t telling the truth (one of his friends came forward and confessed.) I have seen the church pay time and time again for drug addicts and homeless to go places to get clean and start over.
I now know these places aren’t cheap because my small church tried to send someone and there was NOWAY we could afford it.

Don’t write just to be controversial, God will hold you accountable for the words you are speaking. Make sure it is truth.

  2. Reply to Seriously? Says Says:

It doesn’t say that Pastor Cymbala said that. It says that was the explanation given…not by the Pastor, specifically. I know the family and I do not think they would write anything just to be controversial. I think there must have been real issues, and although I don’t agree with posting them publicly unless Pastor was given the chance to address them, and I do not know if that was the case, I do not believe that the family would intentionally hurt or lie about anyone. I did see that the author of that comment (Susan) has apologized for posting it, although she does not say that her comments were not the truth, and said that she and her family are working out the situation with Pastor, so we should just stay out of it now. As far as all of the other issues, well, I cannot comment on those. Seems like an awful lot of issues to post just to be “controversial”. God knows the truth.

Stirring the pot … love it!!!! – you play a valued part of the Kingdom, I am sure.

  4. Not that kind of church Says:

By the way, it was Carol Cymbala who said, “we’re not tht kind of church”…and now we know why. Poor, homeless people don’t bring in tithes, do they?

  5. You Were Made For More Says:

Pastor Cymbala has included Roberta Langella’s story in his books and videos for years, all of which were bestsellers and have brought in millions of dollars to the church. Yet, when Roberta was working tirelessly for the homeless ministry in the midst of her physical limitations, she was abruptly told that the homeless ministry was being dismantled, and that the small stipend that Roberta received (she has been on disability for years) was also taken away. She was forced to apply for food stamps, and stood on line for several hours with a 103 fever. She was in a nursing home for over six months, and came close to death several times, and yet Pastor Cymbala visited her once during that entire time. When she was finally released from the nursing home, she was 80 lbs. and very weak, and NO ONE from the Brooklyn Tab ever came to see her or help her. Yet, the church STAFF had to go and shovel Pastor Toledo and Pastor Cymbalas snow at their homes; yet Roberta was left to fend for herself, while barely being able to function due to her severe illness. But whenever a good story is needed for the next book, Pastor Cymbala seems to reconnect with Roberta to get information for his next sensation to sell his books. Our family begged him to help Roberta during the writing of his last book, as she was severely depressed and in dire need of spiritual help. Pastor Cymbala did nothing to help her, and when our family found out about the story that he was including in his book about Roberta, we met with him and told him we did not want the story included because it was an absolute false representation of her true spiritual, emotional and mental condition, and she couldn’t handle the burden of trying to live up to the fabricated image Pastor Cymbala portrayed of her in his book. Pastor Cymbala was well aware of her condition while writing the book, but chose to publish it anyway, because the truth wouldn’t be a very good testimony for the sale of his book. He promised our family that the story would be removed from the book after the first printing, and that he had confirmed it with Zondervan. Well, Roberta’s false story is still in the book, and Pastor Cymbala has cut off all communication with the Langella family because we dared to confront him with the truth, a truth that was a huge inconvenience to both he and Zondervan Publishing. While Roberta struggles financially on disability and struggles with her health, Pastor Cymbala rakes in millions of dollars from stories like Roberta’s, lives in a multi-million dollar home, has a million dollar vacation home in Fla., and refuses to disclose financial statements to tithing members of the church. His own children have done horrendous things to members of the church they pastor in Chicago, and Pastor Cymbala goes to great lengths to cover up the sins of his son-in-law, who pastors the Chicago Tabernacle, and is a spiritually abusive bully who slanders, threatens and intimidates church members. Both churches operate in an environment of fear and intimidation, and it is a classic example of absolute power corrupting absolutely. Every word posted here is the truth, and there are dozens of similar incidences, but I am only speaking of those that are of my personal experience with this church. It is not surprising that people are questioning the soundness of the doctrines that Pastor Cymbala preaches when his very character and actions are a complete contradiction to the teachings of Christ. This man needs a lot of prayer, because he has sold out for self-profit and promoting the BT image, regardless of the cost to the lives he writes about. He cared more about the sale of his book than the dire condition of a woman who served at that church for almost 20 years. Of course, there is no more communication with her, because she is of no further use to him

  6. Joseph Says:

I am personally aware of the abusive and profit driven behavior of the church. Pastor Jim Cymbala is very vindictive and will go to great lengths to defame those in his congregation that may out shine him. Carol Cymbala is insensitive and phony. During the last recording of the choirs last album, she was very abusive to the choir members. For example, “My husband told all you people that you were to do what you were told when you joined this choir. If you are told to stand on your head, you do it!”, she screamed.

Additionally, he uses people’s personal trauma to raise money for the church. Two of his members Roberto and Marilyn Edwards are one such case. They lost everything in a fire just before Christmas last year. He took them before the church to raise funds for them. He took in thousands and barely gave them 1500.00. Roberto Edwards had to escape from a window to safety. He and his wife are still struggling.

Something should be done about this man and his greedy persona. His sermons are weak and void of any real spiritual substance.

  7. THEONE@GMAIL.COM Says:

    I AGREE 100%
AS A FORMER MEMBER MYSELF,I AM ONE OF MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN HURT BY THIS SO CALLED MINISTRY.I ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT THE CHURCHES FINANCIAL STATUS BECAUSE EVERY WEEK THIS MAN GUILT INDUCED PEOPLE TO GIVE.HE MAKES SURE HE REITERATES TITHING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.EVEN THOUGH NO WHERE IN THE NT DOES PAUL MENTION TITHING.NEVER!!HE MENTIONS FREE WILL GIVING FROM YOUR HEART.I PERSONALLY HAD FRIEND S THAT WERE A PART OF THE DOWNTOWN LEARNING CENTER AND SAID TO ME HOW BAD IT’S SUFFERING.ANOTHER MEMBER TOLD ME THE CYMBALAS OPPORATE THE CHURCH LIKE A MOM AND POP STORE. -THE MAN CYMBALA HIMSELF IS KNOWN TO BE RUDE,ARROGENT AND EXSTREMLY INSENSITIVE.NO LOVE OF CHRIST AT ALL,AND DON’T YOU DARE QUESTION HIS AUTHORITY.HIS WORD IS FINAL ACCORDING TO HIM.I HAVE BEEN PERSONALLY DISRESPECTED BY THIS MAN MYSELF ,FACE TO FACE.HE DOES NEED PRAYER & IT’S ASHAME MEMBERS ARE SO QUICK TO PROTECT THIS MAN, EVEN AS HE’S HURT SO MANY PEOPLE IN HIS OFFICE OVER THE YEARS,EVEN BRINGING SOME WOMEN I KNOW TO TEARS.HIS WIFE IS NO BETTER AND IS SUCH AN IMMATURE CHRISTIAN IT BOGLES MY MIND THAT GOD HAS NOT SET THEM STRAIGHT BY NOW.THERE ARE LAWSUITS ALSO.THIS IS SO SAD.

  8. Ken Says:

We all experience hurts and even betrayal, but lashing out at other people because of the faults we perceive in them is not what God calls us to. His command is “love, love, love,” and “show mercy.” It was on the night in which He was betrayed that Jesus met with the same disciples who would betray, deny, and abandon him. He broke bread with them, communed with them, and gave thanks to the Father. He had washed all of their feet, including Judas’ feet. That is our calling. We are not called to stand beside Satan to accuse and condemn other believers. No, we are called to carry our cross of self-denial, otherwise we are not His true followers. Peter said, “I’ll never deny you,” and then denied him. Yes, God allows these “thorns in the flesh” to keep Pastor Cymbala from becoming proud, but that has nothing to do with us. We cannot be like Peter, saying to Jesus about John, “Hey wait a minute. What about him?” Jesus will just say to us, “What is that to you?” When we stand before God individually, he will not ask us what we thought about other people’s faults. He will say, “What did you do with my Son whenever you fell down? Did you humble yourself and return to him, or not?” And He will know already. It does not matter if we say, “Yeah, but did I not prophecy in your name? Did I not heal in your name?”
